COLE GICK

Coach Cole grew up in Otterbein, Indiana playing baseball, basketball, tennis, and high school golf. After high school he moved to Scottsdale, Arizona and attended the Golf Academy of America, where he took classes on all things golf and played many of the courses in the area. Upon graduation, Cole worked at an Arizona golf course for a bit but soon decided he missed the country, and it was time to return home to Indiana.

Back in the West Lafayette area, Cole began working at Coyote Crossing Golf Club, one of the top ranked courses in the state. While there he grew their men’s club to the largest size ever and began teaching the membership. He quickly realized that other than playing golf, he most enjoyed teaching it. Cole soon found a teaching opportunity in Oregon and decided to make the big move out west.

In 2016, after a season teaching part-time, and running a junior summer program Cole decided to fully focus on junior golf and began coaching at SKOUT. At first, Cole oversaw our Clubs program, and grew it from 1-2 kids, to over 20 per week. Currently he still leads the Clubs program, but also our Spades programming. Cole enjoys creating sessions that develop kids physically and challenges them with golf games that adapt to anyone’s level.

Outside of coaching, Cole plays weekly out at The Reserve, and loves hitting balls and working out. During the summer he loves caddying for junior golfers in local tournaments, and has successfully helped his player qualify for the US Junior Am 2 years in a row. Some of his favorite memories include coaching PGA Junior League in California, and Washington, as well as caddying the Junior Ams at the Country Club of North Carolina, and Bandon Dunes.

DANNY HEXT

Coach Danny has grown up playing sports in Beaverton his entire life. He took up golf, baseball, and basketball at the young age of 3, and continued playing them all through his childhood. Danny entered his first competitive golf tournament at the age of 8 and got his first taste of victory at the age of 9. He continued playing Oregon Junior Golf Tournaments all over the state and in 2019 was chosen to represent Team Oregon at the Eddie Hogan Cup.

Before his sophomore year of high school, Danny transferred to the brand-new Mountainside High School. His coach on the golf team was SKOUT’s own Coach Cole. With the help of Cole’s coaching, Danny improved his swing mechanics, improved physically, and matured mentally on and off the golf course. Danny had some strong High School seasons for the Mavs that included making All-League and All-State High School teams.

Around the end of Danny’s High School career he began to realize his true passion in golf was teaching. With the knowledge he accumulated over his junior career, combined with the mentorship of coaches, and other instructors in the area Danny worked his way up the golf industry at local courses. Anyone could see that Danny loved to teach, he would spend his breaks on the range helping his co-workers hit it better. At the Reserve, we watched Danny help many beginner golfers improve and actually come to enjoy the game.

At the end of summer 2022, Danny joined SKOUTgolf as a coach in our junior program. He’s always getting involved in warmups and games with the juniors, and enjoys getting into a tight match with them on Sundays.

Coach Jennie moved from South Korea to California when she was 6. At a young age she decided to be a professional golfer and worked her way up through California junior golf. She competed in national AJGA events, was a three time Rolex Junior All-American, and posted five tournament titles.

Jennie was a four time All-American at Duke University where her teams won two NCAA Championships, and three ACC Titles. She graduated with a major in sociology, and during the summers played in Curtis Cups, and US Opens. There’s too much to put on here so here’s what Duke has to say.

After college, Jennie played professionally for 8 seasons splitting time between the LPGA Tour, Ladies European Tour, and the Symetra Tour. She competed in all 4 LPGA Majors including 7 US Opens.

Currently, Jennie works full time at Nike's World Headquarters. In the evenings and weekends she coaches, plays, or helps juniors with their college recruiting. She is passionate about growing girls' golf and enjoys helping and encouraging juniors to reach their goals.

SEBASTIAN MARTINEZ

Hey! That’s me! I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina but my family immigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada when I was 7.

Growing up I played a ton of sports. Field hockey, soccer, basketball, volleyball, badminton, rugby, I played them all and more. My favorite was being a goalie in ice hockey. Eventually, I landed on golf because I loved watching Tiger on weekends, and I wanted to design golf clubs.

After high school I attended the University of Toronto to get a mechanical engineering degree…I was there for a year…it ended up not being for me.

In 2010 I attended a golf professional college in South Carolina. After playing a lot, taking classes on all things golf, and graduating, I moved back in with my parents and started working at a golf course in Georgia. All I wanted to do was teach golf so I attended a bunch of certification seminars, bought a TrackMan, and luckily had a great head pro who let me teach, fit, and grow our junior program. Looking for a full time teaching job I moved to Beaverton in March 2014.

SKOUTgolf was started in 2015 with a dedication to developing junior golfers and training them as athletes first. It brings together all our coaches’ different experiences with the goal of helping players reach the level of success they strive for. Overseeing our programs and running the business has taught me more than any other job ever would have. I’m always looking to be better and hope to pass that on to my students.
